FistulaFistula is actually a disease in which there is an abnormal passageway or a connection like tube between two epithelium-lined organs or it could be vessels which are normally not connected. Though it is a type of disease it can be surgically created for various purposes or therapeutic reasons. Human beings are affected by this type of disease which can develop in any human body part. Various surgical procedures are generally and commonly used, most commonly fistulotomy. First the roof of the fistula is cut away with proper incision. As a result of this process the tunnel gets changed into a trench. Next the trench becomes shallower as it starts healing slowly and steadily, which finally ends up as a flat scar after a month or couple of two. The operation could either be done as a day case or what ever the case may be, which means that you need to come into hospital on the day of the immediate day of operation and go home the same day after operation, or as an in-patient case, which means spending one or couple of nights in hospital. Before the surgery you have to get your weight down and should stop smoking.
